01 / THE GROUP

What is a
mastermind group?

You’ve got ambitions. You’ve also got decisions, distractions and things you keep putting off.

A mastermind group brings people together to share experience, solve problems and hold one another accountable. You set a meaningful goal, work through the obstacles and report back on your progress.

Founded by Ricky Nelson, The Mastermind Group combines goal setting, peer support and practical action for business growth and personal development. Bring a real challenge. Hear a different perspective. Leave with a clear next step.

THE MASTERMIND PRINCIPLE

The idea
behind the group.

Napoleon Hill helped popularise a simple principle: bring people’s knowledge and effort together around a clear purpose.

We put that idea into practice through shared experience, useful questions and clear commitments. Hear Hill explain the thinking behind it.

One challenge.
Everyone’s attention.

The hot seat, or focus seat, gives one person the group’s full attention. Bring a business challenge, personal goal or decision. The group asks questions, shares experience and helps you explore your options.

  1. Explain the issue and the help you need.
  2. Explore it together before jumping to advice.
  3. Choose the step you’re ready to take.

04 / OUR PRINCIPLES

Trust is earned.
Here’s how.

A useful accountability group needs trust, confidentiality and equal participation. These are the commitments we bring to every conversation.

01

Keep it confidential.

Protect what people share. Ask permission before taking their stories, notes or ideas beyond the group.

02

Be fully present.

Come prepared, listen properly and share the time. Give someone else’s goals the attention you’d want for yours.

03

Ask. Listen. Challenge.

Understand the issue first. Share experience honestly. Make room for different views and useful disagreement.

04

Own your next step.

Choose an action you can stand behind. Follow through, report back and learn from what actually happened.

Mastermind groups.
Your questions answered.

What is a mastermind group?

A mastermind group is a small group of people who meet to share ideas, work through challenges and support one another’s goals. It combines peer support with accountability: you agree a next step, take action and review what happened. Each person contributes experience and thoughtful questions.

Do I need to run a business?

No. A business mastermind can focus on running or growing a business, while a personal development group may focus on habits, confidence or life goals. Our approach makes space for both. What matters is a meaningful goal, openness to constructive challenge and a willingness to contribute.

What happens in a hot seat?

We call it the focus seat. You bring one issue and explain the help you need. Others ask questions and share relevant experience. You decide what to do next and come back to it at a later meeting.

How is it different from business networking?

Business networking often centres on introductions and new contacts. A mastermind group works with the same people over time, giving you space to explore decisions in depth and review your commitments. The focus is shared learning, practical support and progress towards your goals.

Are there other names for a mastermind group?

You may see terms such as peer advisory group, accountability group, peer support circle or business roundtable. The formats vary. Look for clear goals, regular meetings, confidentiality, equal participation and a practical way to follow up on actions.

What if I haven’t completed an action?

Bring an honest update. Explore what got in the way, whether the commitment was realistic and what needs to change. Agree a useful next step and keep the original commitment visible so you can recognise patterns.

Where does the mastermind idea come from?

Napoleon Hill popularised the principle in The Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich: people coordinating their knowledge and effort towards a clear purpose. Our focus is its practical application—shared thinking, deliberate action and regular review.
